Heisman Hopeful Tebow injured in 45-12 rout over FSU

Tim Tebow, who solidified his case as potentially the first sophomore in NCAA history to win the Heisman Trophy, accounted for five total touchdowns, three through the air and two rushing as the Gators dominated for the fourth straight year in the Sunshine State rivalry. Percy Harvin chipped in 157 yards on the ground, returning to the starting lineup after missing the two previous games with migraine headaches.

Unfortunately Tebow broke his non-throwing hand early in the third quarter, on a five-yard touchdown run.   After examination on the sideline he was allowed to continue by team physicians. He is expected to wear a cast for about two weeks, but should be available for a bowl game, likely to fall on New Year’s day. A prohibitive favorite to win the Heisman, Tebow has accounted for an NCAA record 51 touchdowns this season, with 22 on the ground. He has thrown for over three thousand yards on the season while rushing for nearly 900 to this point.

The Gators got out to an early 14-3 lead and were never really challenged by the cross-state rivals, despite a successful 60 yard field goal by FSU as time expired in the first half, the longest in the nation this year, which pulled the ‘Noles back to within 12 at 24-12. Scoring on the first drive of the third quarter the Gators extended the lead and never looked back, with the defense pitching a shutout in the second stanza. The only aggravating aspect to the game for those of us in the Atlanta area was the local CBS affiliate staying for the entirety of the UT-UK thriller, picking up coverage of UF-FSU towards the end of the first half.
